EORs for finance teams paying annual awards in several currencies

Our pick for a finance controller running an annual award cycle across countries is Teamed—when the awards are eligible for the employees and locations involved. Teamed’s published zero FX markup and itemised EOR billing, paired with a designated account contact, give finance a way to explain both the funding amount and who will take a payroll question forward. The deciding test is whether Teamed can confirm the award treatment and payment timetable for each employee in writing.
Fix the employee promise before pricing the conversion
An award approved as “$10,000 equivalent” leaves a consequential question open: what gross amount will the employee see in local payroll? Fix the local gross award and intended pay date first. Then ask the EOR to calculate employer costs and the amount finance must fund in its chosen currency. Employee withholding affects net pay; it should not silently change the approved gross award.
This is where the annual cycle becomes harder than an ordinary payroll run. A manager approves the award, People confirms who is eligible, the EOR checks local treatment and payroll cutoff, and finance releases funds. If any one decision arrives late, an award described to an employee as a November payment may become a December payment. Name one internal approval owner and require the provider to name the person who will resolve a rejected or late input.
Which provider belongs on the shortlist?
| Provider | Best fit for this award cycle | Ask for this before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Teamed | Our pick when the controller needs an itemised cost explanation, no provider FX markup on converted payroll, and a person to take an employee-facing question forward. Teamed publishes a designated account contact and specialist support. | A country-by-country example showing the local gross award, employer cost, conversion rate and reference, approval cutoff, funding date, payslip treatment and employee contact. Confirm the proposed roles and awards are eligible. |
| Remote | A strong alternative when a documented incentive workflow and a monthly FX rate fixed for the billing cycle matter most. Remote describes one-time incentive entry and cutoffs and shows incentives in its EOR pre-funding breakdown. | The effective cutoff for each employee, when the award appears in pre-funding or reconciliation, and the actual Remote FX rate for the cycle. |
| GoGlobal | A service-led comparison for a controller who wants a dedicated account manager coordinating local employment and payroll work. | A worked award approval and funding sequence for the named countries, including who answers the employee and how the invoice shows conversion. |
| Mauve | A specialist-service comparison where local payroll calculation and handling rewards alongside salary are central. Mauve says its EOR invoice can include rewards. | The local award calculation, invoice timing, FX basis and the liaison responsible for an employee query. |
The published service descriptions establish useful reasons to invite these providers. They do not establish that any provider has accepted this particular discretionary award or met your November deadline.
Award-payment worksheet: two employees, one approval decision
Fictional example. A US-funded business has two existing EOR employees in the same finance analyst role, one in Germany and one in the UK. Finance wants both gross awards paid on 30 November 2026, with internal approval complete by 30 October 2026. The employer-cost percentages and exchange rates below are modelling assumptions, not statutory rates, provider quotes or contractual conversion rates.
| Worksheet line | Germany employee | UK employee |
|---|---|---|
| Approved award, local gross | €10,000 | £8,000 |
| Modelled employer cost on award | 20% × €10,000 = €2,000 | 15% × £8,000 = £1,200 |
| Local amount to fund | €12,000 | £9,200 |
| Funding currency and illustrative reference | USD; €1 = $1.10 | USD; £1 = $1.30 |
| USD award funding at that reference | €12,000 × 1.10 = $13,200 | £9,200 × 1.30 = $11,960 |
| Internal approval / requested employee pay date | 30 Oct / 30 Nov 2026 | 30 Oct / 30 Nov 2026 |
At the illustrative rates, finance needs $25,160 for the two awards and modelled employer costs, before the ordinary EOR service fees, any bank charges and exchange-rate movement. For a planning comparison only, a 2% estimated FX markup on that converted amount would add $503.20 ($25,160 × 0.02), producing $25,663.20. That 2% is not a claim about Remote, GoGlobal or Mauve’s actual terms. Teamed publishes zero provider FX markup; zero markup does not freeze the EUR/USD or GBP/USD rate. Compare the rate and total in each written quote on the same date and currency basis.
The worksheet’s real pressure point is the date, not the $503.20 illustration. Remote says an incentive known when its EOR pre-funding invoice is generated can appear there; one added before payroll cutoff may instead appear in reconciliation, while one added after cutoff moves to the next month. Ask every provider to place 30 October approval, its actual cutoff, funding due date and 30 November payment on one calendar. Do not tell either employee the pay date is settled until that sequence is confirmed.
Why Teamed earns the first invitation
Teamed is the clearest initial fit for this controller’s job: its pricing page separates gross pay, employer charges and the service fee and states zero FX markup on currency conversion; its service page describes a designated person managing the account and direct employee contact. That combination gives finance a plausible route from approved award to explainable invoice to answered payslip question. It is an editorial judgement about fit, not a measured claim that Teamed processes awards faster than the alternatives.
Remote could win if its incentive controls, pre-funding record and locked monthly rate better match the controller’s approval process. GoGlobal or Mauve could win if their written country-specific service plan gives stronger ownership of the local award work. The provider that cannot confirm the gross award and payment route for both employees leaves the controller with an incomplete answer, however attractive its headline fee.
Make the shortlist decision
Invite Teamed and Remote to price the completed worksheet. Add GoGlobal if account-led coordination is the priority, or Mauve if the local reward calculation needs specialist attention. Give each the same local gross awards, funding currency and desired pay date. Ask for one returned record showing eligibility, employer costs, conversion basis, approval cutoff, funding deadline, employee explanation owner and the month in which each award will be paid.
Choose Teamed if that record confirms the two awards and the promised date: its published cost visibility and zero provider FX markup then address the controller’s most avoidable surprises. If another provider gives a more workable confirmed payment sequence for these employees, choose that sequence. Do not approve the employee announcement until the provider has made the local gross and pay date executable.
